Tony's Testimonial | Protecting CA Trust Beneficiary Rights

Facing a major trust dispute in Alameda County Superior Court, Tony's family hired Hackard Law to defend his father's trust beneficiary rights against undue influence. Hackard Law attorney Dave Jones moved quickly to establish a solid basis for litigation and successfully stopped interference with an inheritance. Here Tony tells his story:

How did you come to Hackard Law?

You know, I was looking at a lot of different lawyers, and honestly kind of struggling, because I wasn't hearing what I wanted to hear. And being a case where it's a living trust, it's already iron-clad, or so I thought. I was a little bit hesitant that we had a chance, but we had to fight for it. Because that was what was right. And you put me at ease. I can't remember the details, but we talked about the different things that you had to prove, and you were able to do it. So it was great.

How did Hackard Law attorney Dave Jones serve you in the case?

Dave just really did a dynamite job. The questions he asked were open-ended and leading towards a certain aspect of what he was looking for in terms of an answer to help the case. And during that process, there was a lot going on, and Dave was over there taking notes pretty fast, and then when it was his turn, boom! He was up, he was ready to talk. He basically went through his bullets and just cleared everything and made it back in Dad's favor. So it was interesting to see that. I didn't know how it was going to happen. I didn't know what he was going to do, but it worked out nice.

How did you feel upon hearing the jury's verdict?

I saw Dad's attorney, Dave, walking back, and I could just tell that it went in his favor, and we talked about it. Dave explained to me what happened, and I could tell. Just by looking at him I could tell it worked out.

What would you tell a friend who was facing trust litigation and seeking to recover wrongfully taken assets?

I would tell them to just don't give up, and seek you guys. I looked at a handful of people, and if we needed information, Dave was responsible, or responsive. Your firm was responsive. We did our best to give him information when he needed it. I helped Dad along the way to help understand some of the things. Aside of not wanting to do something like this - no one wants to go and fight against their family - but we knew it was the right thing to do. It paid off, and you guys helped us every step of the way.

You guys were just awesome, and I can't thank you enough. He would have zero. He would have nothing. And he and his brother didn't...I'm the one that said, "Dad, you have to fight this. If you can't, you're getting robbed of your inheritance. This is not right." And he wanted me to do it, but he just needed a little help.
