Bigfoot | A Grandson’s Discovery

Bigfoot has become more important in our family’s life. It now seems amazing that we ignored him and his escapades for so many years. Our four-year-old grandson, Andrew, changed all that.

He discovered Bigfoot this year. It wasn’t done in the wild forests of Alaska or Northern Georgia. It happened at home. On an iPhone. With his “Mimaw” providing a YouTube guide to Bigfoot.

I’m not sure about the order of sightings. Alaska, British Columbia, Georgia. Again, I’m not sure. Whatever its beginning, we’re now firmly planted in its mystery.

We even have a prominently placed bright yellow backyard sign that meets visitors with the customary caution: “WARNING – BIGFOOT AREA – STAY ON MARKED TRAILS.”

Andrew can now recite the latest sightings. The suspicious footprints in the forest. The harrowing stories from videotaped believers.

“I saw him” – “he was there and then he wasn’t.” “He looked back at me with knowing eyes as he ran back into the forest.” There are more testimonies on YouTube. Just google Bigfoot.

Andrew and I now sport matching Bigfoot T-Shirts. They’re gray. Bigfoot’s walking silhouette takes up most of the front of the shirt. “I Believe” borders the silhouette. “I Believe” is important to Andrew.

At Easter, at our largest family gathering in over a year, Andrew, mid-meal, blurted out: “All those who believe in Bigfoot, raise your hand.” Almost all hands sprang to attention. A few laggards were five seconds delayed. They knew better than to ignore the wisdom of crowds.

We’re now several months into Bigfoot Awareness Season. Andrew, with the help of his teenage cousin, Mark, regularly spots Bigfoot’s footprints in family backyards and local walking trails. So far, no actual sightings, but you never know.

Andrew has seen that several states have identified their local Bigfoot hotspots. Andrew’s got them all on his travel to-do list.
