Sacramento's Most Dangerous Intersections Revealed

Car Broken Glass

We all know we're supposed to observe basic safety rules when driving or just walking across the street, but some areas demand heightened awareness. Traffic in Sacramento, like other major cities in California, has only expanded with every new decade due to population growth, residential development and new drivers on the road. With that in mind, it's especially useful to know where you're at increased risk of injury in a traffic accident - and some areas are much more dangerous than others.

Local law enforcement officials regularly collect and analyze statistics on road accidents, injuries and fatalities to determine which traffic routes pose the most problems for both drivers and pedestrians. The intersection at Howe Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard, for example, was long known as one of the worst in the country for automobile collisions. With the introduction of red-light cameras, the frequency of traffic accidents, including catastrophic and deadly car crashes, is reported to have been significantly reduced. The Sacramento Police Department's "Most Dangerous" list of intersections for 2013 is nonetheless a reminder of the potential dangers we encounter on the roadways and crosswalks. Here are Sacramento's Most Dangerous Intersections:

  1. Folsom Blvd. and Howe Ave.
  2. Franklin Blvd. and Mack Rd.
  3. N. 12th St. and B St.
  4. Mack Rd. and Valley High Dr.
  5. Elder Creek Rd. and Stockton Blvd.
  6. Consumnes River Blvd. and Bruceville Rd.
  7. Franklin Blvd. and Fruitridge Rd.
  8. Meadowview Rd. and 24th St.
  9. Stockton Blvd. and Fruitridge Rd.

Whether you're behind the wheel of a car or truck, on a bicycle or taking a walk the old-fashioned way, remember to exercise caution on the road and keep aware of surrounding traffic. Your safety, and possibly the well-being of those you love and of others, depends on it.
