Feel like doing something a little more substantive on Christmas Eve than just a light tour of the neighborhoods? There are many beautiful churches and cathedrals in Sacramento. Here are four that have a special and memorable Christmas Eve Midnight Mass:
Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament: 1017 11th Street, Sacramento. One of the most famous churches in Sacramento and when building commenced in 1887 the largest church west of the Mississippi River. Enjoy the Musical Prelude at the Cathedral on Christmas Eve at 11:30 PM and Midnight Mass of Christmas at 12:00 Midnight with the Cathedral Choir. Remember, this is Sacramento's most famous church, so it will be crowded!
Saint Francis of Assisi: 1066 26th Street, Sacramento. Another extremely popular and beautiful Sacramento church is this 100+ year-old church modeled after that of the Old Mission of Santa Barbara. The Christmas Eve concert begins at 11:00 PM and the Midnight Mass at 12:00 Midnight.
Sacred Heart Parish Church: 39th and "J" Streets, Sacramento. This Romanesque Catholic parish church is located in the heart of East Sacramento. Christmas Eve Midnight Mass begins at 12:00 Midnight.
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral: 2620 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento. This Episcopal Cathedral Church is located on what was once known as "M Street" - the location of many of Sacramento's rich historic and cultural resources. Christmas Eve events include a Festive Christmas Concert by the Cathedral Choir at 10:30 PM and the Festive Holy Eucharist ("Midnight Mass") at 11:00 PM.
Have a very Merry Christmas!
