The Wolf at the Door: Ep. 7 | Elder Financial Abuse Lawsuits

The Wolf at the Door Ep. 7 | Elder Financial Abuse LawsuitsHello, I'm Mike Hackard. I'm the chair of Hackard Law, a law firm focusing on estate, trust and elder financial abuse litigation in California's major urban areas. I'm the author of The Wolf at The Door: Undue Influence and Elder Financial Abuse. The book will come out in early autumn. This is episode 7, where I provide basic guidance if your family inheritance has come under threat. Here are some key points I draw from my experience:

An estate planner is not an estate litigator. While estate planning is largely predictable, estate and trust litigation is dynamic and requires dynamic strategies and tactics. Trust lawsuits mean you better be ready for a fight.

Get a second or even a third opinion. Just like doctors who prescribe a program of treatment, attorneys might take different approaches to a case involving elder financial abuse or undue influence. Make sure to ask them about their experience and record of success.

Take some time to understand your emotions. If you're a beneficiary whose rights have been violated, you're going to experience all sorts of stressful emotions, including grief over the loss of a loved one, a sense of betrayal, anger, and even guilt. It's okay to sort these out. What's not okay is failing to right a wrong.

If you would like a free digital copy of the book when it comes out email us at [email protected] I'm happy to share this book on this very important topic.
