Hello, I'm Mike Hackard. I lead Hackard Law, a law firm that focuses on significant estate, trust and elder financial abuse litigation in California.
I'm the author of The Wolf at The Door: Undue Influence and Elder Financial Abuse. I'm also the author of my new book, Alzheimer's, Widowed Stepmothers & Estate Crimes. The book comes out on March 1, 2019. This is Episode 1, where I briefly discuss my motivation for writing Alzheimer's book, Widowed Stepmothers & Estate Crimes.
I'm in the fifth decade of practicing law. I serve the community that I'm a part of - America's baby boomers. There are over 65 million of us, depending on how you count.
Ten thousand of us are reaching the age of 65 each day.
As our law practice has evolved, it's become increasingly clear that family members facing inheritance battles often share similarities that are worth knowing about. Among the similarities are:
- Trust amendments by an elder with Alzheimer's disease or dementia;
- Second, third or fourth marriages with a surviving widow dealing with her husband's biological children from an earlier marriage;
- and finally, family members or other con artists committing fraud and wrongful acts on a vulnerable elder.
