Academic Scholarship 2019 | Announcing the Winner

Academic Scholarship 2019 | Announcing the WinnerThis year's Hackard Law Academic Scholarship Contest posed the question, "What will you do to improve the lives of the elderly in your community?" Our choice of topic is not accidental - after all, our firm is focused on estate and trust litigation, often in connection with issues like elder financial abuse. Part of our mission is protecting seniors from harm, so we looked to award the prize to a student committed to the wellbeing of elders.

Thanksgiving 2018.jpgThanksgiving is right around the corner, and it's a perfect reminder to be grateful for all our blessings. It's also an opportunity to spread your good fortune and donate to those who are less fortunate in our community. You can deliver a turkey and canned foods to a food drive, volunteer your time in a food kitchen downtown, or even donate online.

Legal Marketing to Potential Clients | Michael Hackard

Legal Marketing to Potential Clients | Michael HackardA few friends and colleagues have expressed interest in having me talk about legal marketing - a subject that I both enjoy and regularly participate in. We should start with a little history. I became a lawyer in December 1976. At that time lawyers were generally prohibited from publicizing themselves or their law firms in newspapers, magazines, radio or television. It was expected that a lawyers reputation could only grow with experience and community involvement - an obvious advantage to those who had been in the legal profession for many years. Advertising rules began to change in June 1977 with the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision of Bates v. State Bar of Arizona. I've followed the effects of Bates since my very first year of law practice.
